The Art of the Coil & Knot
I don’t just string beads; I build them into the cord. I use a coiling technique to wrap the gold-accented cotton thread tightly around the core, creating those dense, rhythmic ridges you see at the top. To lock everything in place, I transition into Reinforced Square Knots . These knots are balanced and flat, ensuring the 16cm charm stays secure and maintains its shape even with daily use on a heavy backpack.
The Spirit of the Gourd
The Red Sandalwood (Zitan) gourd is the anchor of this piece. I’ve paired its deep, wine-colored grain with a cluster of 8mm Tiger’s Eye beads. When you run your fingers over the square knots down to the smooth wood and the chatoyant stones, you can feel the different textures of my workshop.
